Post Modern Deck Addition
A new deck addition to a postmodern house designed by Young and Young. The existing deck was deteriorating and needed replacement.
The new deck was different, but still fit in. A series of forms informed by the house were developed, and the stepping plan was selected. The stepping plan creates an outdoor living room, an outdoor dining area, and an outdoor grilling area, and follows the wetland boundary setback of the site.
Helical piers are utilized as a foundation methodology. The overall width of the new deck is centered on the house plan, creating global symmetry, while still being locally asymmetrical due to the stepping form.
